The English Language Education (PBI) Study Program at Potential Main University is holding activities againTable Manner Courseas an annual routine activity to equip students with formal dining etiquette knowledge and skills, especially in professional and social contexts. This activity, which was held on Saturday, July 4 2026 at the Arya Duta Hotel in Medan, aims to increase students' understanding of formal dining etiquette which is an important part in forming a professional image and also as an outcome of 2 courses in the PBI UPU study program.
Mrs. Titim Eliawati, M.Pd. as a lecturer in the Intercultural Communication/Cross-Cultural Communication course, said that this activity was a strategic step to increase student competence. "Table manners are not just about table manners, but also about self-confidence, professionalism and the ability to interact in a formal atmosphere. We want students to be ready to face the international world," he said.
This practical activity aims to equip students with an understanding of eating habits that apply in professional and cross-cultural contexts. In the global world of work, the ability to behave according to international etiquette standards is considered important, especially for English Language Education graduates who interact a lot in multicultural contexts.
In the training session, students are introduced to various rules, such as how to use cutlery according to the order of dishes, the correct sitting position, techniques for holding a glass, and communication rules when eating. Not only theory, participants also took part in an official banquet simulation guided by professional instructors from the Arya Duta Hotel, as well as guidance from lecturers who taught the course.

This course aims to equip students with English language skills related to tourism, especially the world of hospitality. And of course this table manner activity is also combined with the Hotel Tour activity, so students can see directly the things related to ithotel related jobsAndHospitality Management", namely how to serve guests starting from reservations, types of hotel rooms, hotel facilities, providing food, neatness and room cleanliness services." Ashari explained.
This table manner course activity is also in line with our efforts to realize the scientific vision of the PBI study program, namely to become a PBI study program that is professional, has character and has achievements in the field of English Language Teaching., English for Specific Purposes, Educational Linguistics and Translation by integrating information and communication technology. "This is also related to the profile of PBI study program graduates, apart from being able to become English teachers, they can also become English practitioners, one of which is working in the hotel and tourism sector," said Mrs. Dr. Enni Maisaroh, M.
